Knocked-Out Tooth Hoppers Crossing
If you have a knocked out permanent tooth, there is a high chance that it will survive if it is reattached to its socket.
Every minute is important when a tooth is out of its socket; its survival chance is decreased as time passes. Do not place a knocked out temporary tooth back in its socket. It will affect the growth of the developing tooth underneath the gum.
First Aid Treatment for Knocked Out Tooth
Read the following tooth-saving tips to follow at home before going to your dentist’s office:
Hold the tooth by the chewing surface not the root
Secure the tooth as soon as possible. Pick up the tooth carefully and do not touch the root, only the crown.
Gently wash the tooth with water
Use water to rinse off any dirt. Do not use soap or any chemicals. Don’t scrub or let the tooth dry up, and don’t wrap the tooth with a tissue or a clean piece of cloth.
Reimplant the tooth in its socket if possible
If a permanent tooth is avulsed, quickly reimplant the tooth to its socket. Gently push it in with your fingers or place it above the socket and close your mouth slowly. Keep the tooth in place with your fingers or by biting down on it.
Keep the tooth wet all the time
The tooth must stay wet at all times, either in your mouth or another container. If it can’t be replaced in the socket, put it in milk, or tuck it in your mouth next to your cheek. Don’t use regular tap water.
See your Hoppers Crossing dentist within 30 minutes of the injury
Bring the tooth to your emergency appointment. It’s best to go to your Hoppers Crossing dentist within 30 minutes of the accident. However, a tooth can still be saved even if it has been outside the mouth for an hour or more.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you reimplant the tooth after it’s been knocked out?
Why is it required to put a tooth in milk when it falls out?
Milk is a good medium for storing knocked out teeth because cells from the root surface do not swell up and burst as they do when submerged in water.
