Causes of Toothache

Tooth decay

Tooth decay, when left ignored, attacks the surfaces of the teeth. The bacteria in the teeth erode its surfaces exposing the sensitive nerves of the tooth. Bacteria in the pulp can cause serious discomfort.

Trauma

Bruxism

First Aid for Toothache

In case of toothache or dental pain, here’s what you can do:

• Make sure there are no food particles stuck in the mouth. To remove the food debris, brush your teeth and floss gently, especially in the affected area.
• If there is swelling, apply a cold compress.
• Take over-the-counter pain relievers, but do not give aspirin to those below 18 years old. Never put aspirin directly on your aching tooth or the gums surrounding it.
