6 Actions to Take Before Getting Braces
The anticipation of your first braces is an entirely distinct feeling.
It’s common for first-timers to be nervous on the day of the instalment. Others may regard it as a completely new frontier.
Most people wouldn’t want to wear braces for an extended period; therefore, they may want to get them correctly the first time.
How can you prepare the day before you get braces if you’re one of these people?
Whether you are getting traditional braces or alternative orthodontic appliances, there are certain things to consider to make the process go faster.
Here are some preliminary measures to take.
#1. Have a dentist appointment for a check-up and cleaning
Making sure your teeth are clean is a preventative measure to help you avoid dental issues requiring treatment.
You will receive the assurance that your teeth and gums are healthy throughout cleaning, and you will also be prepared to begin your orthodontic procedures.
#2. Consider having cavities filled and other dental work done first
It’s possible to get braces on without having your cavities filled beforehand. However, it is usually preferable to have any current cavities filled by your dentist beforehand.
Before getting braces, it’s not uncommon to be advised that you get other dental treatment done that is necessary.
#3. Start removing troublesome foods from your diet
Keep your investment safe by eating the right things while you have braces on. Certain foods must be consumed in a specific way to protect your braces and keep your teeth healthy.
Here is a list of foods that we advise you to avoid:
- chewing gum (sugar-free gum is acceptable)
- apples (unless the apple is sliced into pieces)
- popcorn & chips
- corn on the cob (unless the corn is cut from the cob)
- ice
- carrots
- hard taco shells
- crackers or hard cookies
- candy that is firm or sticky
Additionally, it is advised that you continue eating a balanced diet to ensure that you get all the nutrients you need while going through this change.
#4. Clean your teeth thoroughly before your appointment
Before visiting the orthodontist, give your teeth a thoroughly thorough cleaning. Pay close attention to the crevices and brush, floss, and check the gums to ensure they are clear of debris.
As braces are a team effort, your early participation will be valued. When you visit the orthodontist, they’ll probably give your teeth a nice cleaning too.
#5. Stock up on a variety of pain relievers and soft meals
You might wish to stock your pantry the day before your braces are completed and look for items like:
- Soft foods. In the days and months following the treatment, your greatest friends are foods that need little to no chewing. Your preferences will determine what types of soft food you stock up on. Yogurt, soups, and purees are a few examples.
After installation, you can experience discomfort as the braces put pressure on your teeth to start straightening them.
Along with this, you might want to stock up on painkillers. However, keeping a painkiller on hand can help during extremely unpleasant flare-ups.
#6. Take a before selfie
Grab your camera and take a big, cheesy “before” picture of your teeth on the day you get braces since this is a perfect time to document the beginning of your transformation.
It will be amazing to see how far you’ve come once the treatment is through. They’ll probably start to look different after a few weeks.
